Serrona Limited is an oil and gas company operating in South Sudan. Arton Technologies developed and supplied a comprehensive ERP system designed for the specific operational, financial and compliance requirements of an oil and gas company working in a resource-frontier environment — covering field operations management, procurement and materials control, finance and multi-currency accounting, contractor management, and management reporting.
Off-the-shelf ERP products are designed for the assumptions of stable markets: reliable connectivity, single-currency reporting, standard vendor ecosystems and conventional supply chains. Serrona's operating environment in South Sudan matched none of these. Field operations and the Juba office needed to stay synchronised across intermittent connectivity. Financial reporting ran in USD with local currency exposure. Materials procurement spanned international suppliers, regional logistics hubs and local vendors — each with different payment and documentation requirements.
Beyond the environment, oil and gas operations carry specific management requirements that generic ERPs handle poorly: well and field asset tracking, production volumes and lifting management, contractor timesheets for a mixed workforce of permanents and short-contract field hands, and regulatory reporting to the South Sudan Ministry of Petroleum.
Arton built the ERP around Serrona's actual operating model rather than adapting the operating model to fit available software — a distinction that determined the design approach from day one.
Field asset register (wells, equipment, vehicles), production volume recording, maintenance scheduling, field-to-office data sync with offline capability. Equipment utilisation and downtime tracking.
Purchase requisition to purchase order workflow with multi-level approval. Materials receipt and warehousing. Vendor management across international, regional and local suppliers. Import documentation tracking and landed cost calculation.
USD functional currency with local currency transaction recording. Accounts payable and receivable. Bank reconciliation across multiple accounts and currencies. Month-end close, financial statements and management accounts. JV reporting for joint venture obligations.
Permanent and contract workforce records, field timesheet management, contractor invoice reconciliation against approved timesheets. HSE incident recording and competency tracking. Payroll processing for local staff with multi-jurisdiction payroll rules.
