Instant Insurance is an insurance provider operating in South Sudan — one of the most challenging frontier markets in Sub-Saharan Africa for financial services infrastructure. Arton Technologies supplied and deployed a medical insurance administration platform tailored to the realities of operating in South Sudan: intermittent connectivity, USD-denominated premiums, a mixed-currency claims environment, and a rapidly growing corporate insurance segment.
South Sudan presents a distinct set of operating realities for any digital platform. Internet connectivity is expensive, intermittent, and concentrated in Juba. Corporate clients — the primary buyer of group medical cover — expect modern digital administration, but their HR teams may be operating on mobile data with limited bandwidth. Hospitals and clinics submitting claims span from large private facilities in Juba to smaller clinics in outlying areas.
The Arton platform was designed to work within these constraints. Local sync capability means the system continues to function when connectivity drops. The adjudication engine runs on the server but claim entry is batched and synced. All interfaces are optimised for slow connections and work on basic Android devices.
The USD-dominated insurance market in South Sudan, alongside the local South Sudanese Pound for incidental costs, required a multi-currency claims and payment engine — a non-standard requirement that Arton built into the core platform rather than treating as an edge case.
